Tips for Smooth Entry
Customs & Duty-Free
Rwanda Customs keeps the line clear: red for goods to declare, green for nothing to report, both watched by officers in khaki. Know the limits and you'll walk through without a hitch.
Prohibited Items
- Plastic bags - banned throughout Rwanda with immediate disposal at airport
- Narcotics and illegal drugs - severe penalties including imprisonment
- Counterfeit currency and goods - automatic confiscation and potential prosecution
- Pornographic materials - prohibited under Rwandan law
Restricted Items
- Prescription medications - require doctor's letter and original packaging
- Professional equipment - cameras and electronics over USD 500 require temporary import permit
- Fresh food products - subject to agricultural inspection and may be confiscated
Health Requirements
Rwanda's health gate is simple: show a yellow-fever shot if you're flying in from a risky zone. Otherwise the thermal camera does the talking.

- Yellow Fever - for travelers arriving from countries with yellow fever transmission
Recommended Vaccinations
- Hepatitis A
- Hepatitis B
- Typhoid
